Philosophy as a Way of Life

Hello, I must be going
I cannot stay
I came to say
I must be going
I’m glad I came
But just the same
I must be going, la-la!

The above are the words that begin a famous Groucho Marx song, from the 1930 movie Animal Crackers. It is now my time to sing similar lines to my Medium readers.

Since 16 September 2019 I have published well over 400 stories on this platform, which are to be summed to 425 posts over at How to Be a Stoic, 353 at Footnotes to Plato, 151 at Scientia Salon, and a whopping 2,206 at Rationally Speaking.

Just like those previous projects, though, there comes a time when I need to change things a bit, refocus, and put on offer a different intellectual and aesthetic experience. This is one of those times.

From now on, I will be publishing exclusively at Figs in Winter, my Substack newsletter. I hope you will join me there, whether by subscribing to the free version or supporting my writing with a monthly contribution equivalent to a single not-that-good coffee at Starbucks.

The focus of Figs in Winter (the title is explained here) is Greco-Roman practical philosophy in the broadest sense of the term, with occasional excursions on science, pseudoscience, and metaphysics.

The Substack platform is more congenial to me because the experience is more intimate, with readers who are very involved in the discussion threads. It is also aesthetically more pleasing. I’ve always liked the idea of a newsletter focused on what I love best: writing.

(That said, the site also features an occasional podcast, videos, suggested readings, and recommended books.)

Thanks for your support here at Medium, I’m glad I came / But just the same / I must be going, la-la!
